Music Lessons in Ankeny
Passion Studios is a music lesson studio located in Ankeny, offering piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, drum and early childhood music lessons.

Our playing-based approach through the Simply Music method has students playing 30-50 songs with both hands in their first year

3

Our methods are based on single thought processes and isolated events through a
multi-sensory approach.

It's completely natural. They know that they CAN play the instrument, week after week after week!

4

We involve parents in our learning process, so that they know exactly what we're doing and what we will be achieving. This keeps student's confidence high at home and in the classroom.

5

Our students thrive in camaraderie and friendship throughout their lessons. Each student becomes inspired through their classmates, and in turn inspires others. We all have different strengths!

6

Our students get audios and videos to work with each week, equipping them for a band or ensemble environment.

7

We seek out supplemental, optional musical opportunities for our students to participate in if music is their "thing".

We've gone to Ronald McDonald House, Suites of Ankeny Assisted Living Center, played on our front steps, played on a float for the Ankeny Summerfest Parade, and much more!

8

With the songs we have learned as a context, we reverse engineer the songs onto the page to learn how to read music.

This is natural, just like learning a language! It sets students up for success with reading music as they progress.

All students may participate in a virtual lesson for the day if they need it for sick days, vacation or snow days. We have a camera on our teacher and our instrument.

10

Our students never forget an assignment with the Better Practice App! All assignments, instructions, links, media and practice material is housed in this web-based app.

This also helps us know exactly where each student is, and how to specifically help them each week. Each student can also chat with their teacher in app for any questions throughout the week!

What our Students love...

“I am on my 24th week of lessons with Gabi and I have already learned over 20 songs. I have so much fun every week in the studio with her and I am grateful for this opportunity to learn to play piano in a new and different way. I have never composed prior to these lessons or even thought I would be able to do so, but I am already working on my third short song this week. It’s so encouraging to find a method of learning that makes me feel confident in my abilities to play and that fits my own style of learning. I would recommend this studio, teacher, and method to anyone looking to learn piano and have fun while doing it.”
— Paige M.
“Finally a technique and teacher that is effective, fun and suited for all ages! I’m 50+ and fulfilling a dream to sit down at a keyboard, anytime/anyplace and actually play songs - without sheet music. Having a blast and after just 4 mos. can play an interesting variety of songs. Gabi brings out the best in students of all ages and capabilities!”
— Diana D
“My three children (ages 4, 6 & 7) are taking lessons with me and we are having an amazing time. Three months in and the kids are already playing 5 songs, making up songs on their own and I can play almost 10 songs myself. Gabi is amazing with them and I couldn’t ask for a better approach to learning to play piano.”
— Patrick P.
“Absolutely the BEST experience learning music! Solid fundamentals and music theory taught in such a rewarding way, the kids hardly realize they're learning. Ultimately rewarding and satisfying, even from the start." — S.F.
“I’m so thankful I was referred to Simply Music and even more grateful I found Gabi! She is a wonderful piano teacher. She explains things well and you can feel her passion for music. I’m quite surprised with the number of songs I’ve learned in a little under two months. She’s encouraging and able to work with your schedule. I would recommend Gabi and Simply Music to anyone interested in learning how to play the piano!”
— Emily K.
“I am amazed to say that they are already playing 15 songs, and they have composed and written their own songs too. As parents, we love how we are brought into the learning experience as life coaches, as well as the communication during the week with their teacher, which means that our girls always have the help that they need when they need it. Highly recommended.” — Angela M.
My wife bought me piano lessons for Christmas and it's been a long time since I've had this much fun. — Tom F
“My daughter has taken lessons for 9 months now and anytime we go somewhere that has a piano she sits down and plays. It truly has been a rewarding experience." - Deidre M

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How do I try it out?
A: Music lessons are unique. To get the best results, realistically you'll get the best understanding of lessons by committing to at least a year.

However, we know that's a big commitment, so we offer four-week workshop opportunities in both piano and band to get a "taste" of lessons before taking the plunge!
Sign up here.

If you'd rather get all the info you need in one place before making a decision, you can attend a Free Introductory Session to meet our staff, see our studio space, learn more about us and play a demo song.
Q: This all sounds awesome, when are you available for lessons?
A: When you are!
We have openings Monday - Friday, 2:30pm - 8:00pm and can even accommodate earlier class times for adults or homeschoolers! We just need a minimum of four half hour time slots that you are available (you select all times you are available from our openings during enrollment), and we can guarantee that we have a time that will fit your schedule for the long haul for the best results.

We book FAST and are at 95% capacity. Lessons are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.
Be sure to enroll sooner in the year for the best options!
Q: How much do lessons cost?
A: Our monthly membership is $115 for 45 weeks of lessons in a calendar year. You get LOWER monthly rates the longer you stay! How cool is that??
Q: Are there any curriculum costs?
A: Yes, and it varies by instrument and curriculum. You can budget your first book within the first month, but generally, setting aside $5/mo for books will do the trick, i.e. an average of $60 per year. That's the price of a cup of coffee ☕️

Your teacher will walk you through when and how to purchase materials, as it also varies on student pacing. This is normal for any music lesson environment. If you have more than one child in the same lesson type, i.e. piano, your materials are a one time purchase and will apply to all your students who enroll in that same discipline.
Q: Do you have lessons for age 6?
A: We love getting kids started at six years old; their cognitive development, fine motor, and problem solving soar when they start an instrument early.

Six year olds don't quite have a 15 minute attention span yet for at home practices, and that's normal! We utilize Play-A-Story to bridge the gap. This six to nine month program meets each child where they are with 5-10 minute practices each day. Students study chord theory, song structure and work heavily on fine motor skills and development through story telling and motifs, creating a solid foundation for Simply Music!

All our students who complete Play-A-Story prior to starting any of our other music lessons have a greater success rate with their instrument of choice when they turn 7.

This applies to all disciplines, with the exception of drums - students may start drums at age 6.
Q: Do you have lessons for young children?
A: Yes! We have music and movement classes for age 1-5 through Music Rhapsody, where kiddos can sing, dance, play and make music and friends! Check it out here!

She has seen firsthand the amazing, myriad benefits of music education and is humbled by the opportunity to help foster the love of music and creativity in her students’ lives.

In addition to sharing music at Passion Studios, Hannah plays in a flute octet at her church. We are so pleased Hannah has joined our team to create joy through music!
